Our Kitchen Confidence for School Leavers course is for 17 to 25 year olds. It runs over two weeks and each week you’ll learn a different set of recipes and essential cooking techniques. You can attend both weeks, or pick whichever one is best for the recipes and cooking techniques that you’d like to learn. Please note there is a late start at 12noon on 17th August when the A level results come out.
Whether you just want to improve your cooking skills for fun, or you’re off to Uni and would like to expand your cooking repertoire and independence, this course will give you a flying start.
You’ll learn how to create meals that are inexpensive, healthy and full of flavour. We’ll give you ideas on how to creatively utilise leftovers and provide essential tips on how to affordably keep a well stocked cupboard to ensure you can always put together quick, healthy and impressive meals with what you have at hand.
Some of the recipes you’ll learn in this course include:
Bolognese and how to turn into a chilli con carne or a cottage pie
Cooking with eggs: how to whip up an Omelette, make into a frittata or turn into a quiche
Chicken tray bakes: Tex-Mex, Spanish, Italian
Fish cakes and fish pie
Soup the ultimate comfort food: quick and easy to make, can be based on vegetables, bean/pulses and/or meat/chicken
Quick rise dough: soda bread and speedy pizza
Lemon and blueberry cake
Pavlova
Skills you’ll learn: Knife skills, handling chicken, cooking meat, cooking fish, roasting, cooking with eggs, sauces, use of spices, cake baking, meringues, quick bread dough, shortcrust pastry, rice cooking, pasta cooking, soup making.
You need to tell us in advance of any allergies or special dietary requirements.
We are happy to make adjustments where possible. Some classes however may be unsuitable for people with particular dietary requirements – where the menu would need to be radically different. Please feel free to call us before making a booking, to check if adjustments are possible.
